From the Ashes

From the Ashes - Wild flowers and grass grow in a charred area of forest near Lake Tahoe's south shore.

While we were on a nature walk at Taylor Creek we took a small detour down a forest service road. We came upon the charred remains of some trees in a clearing. As I was contemplating the best angle for the shot Lynda said “Ooh, get a picture of that!”

Strelitzia reginae is a monocotyledonous flowering plant indigenous to South Africa. Common names include Strelitzia, Crane Flower or Bird of Paradise, though these names are also collectively applied to other species in the genus Strelitzia. Its scientific name commemorates Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, queen consort of King George III.
